DAVIDA BARTER

Davida has been a legal secretary/paralegal since 1972 and employed at Mills, Shay, Lexier & Talbot since 1982. She graduated from Skowhegan Area High School and has taken public administration/political science courses at the University of Maine in Augusta.

Davida’s duties at Mills, Shay, Lexier & Talbot include family matters, real estate, and probate.

She has participated in numerous legal secretarial/paralegal seminars. Since 1975, she has been a member of NALS, the association for legal professionals, and was instrumental in forming Kennebec-Somerset Legal Secretaries Association (KSLSA), now known as NALS of Central Maine. Davida is a past president of NALS of Central Maine and NALS of Maine. She has received KSLSA’s Legal Secretary of the Year Award, the NALS of Maine Award of Excellence, and NALS Voices of the Past Award.

She is very active in community affairs. She has been a member of GFWC/Maine Federation of Women’s Clubs since 1974 and served as its president from 1994 to 1996. She is also a past president of the GFWC Semper Fidelis Club and the Skowhegan Chamber of Commerce. 

She has held elected positions on the Board of Selectmen for the Town of Skowhegan and currently holds the position of Treasurer of Coburn Park Commission.

She received Citizen of the Year Awards from the Skowhegan-Madison Elks in 2001 and from the Chamber of Commerce in 1982 and 1992, as well as the Alton Whittemore Award in 2016.  She also received the Rotary Club Paul Harris Fellow in 2011.  She currently serves as a Director of the Margaret Chase Smith Foundation, a corporator for Skowhegan Savings Bank, and is Secretary/Clerk of Somerset Woods Trustees.
